An Educational Consultant and Educational Therapist
ALL IN ONE
Educational Consultants Who are also Educational Therapists Make it Easier on Students and Their Parents
It may not be clear why a student would need to work with an educational therapist who is also an educational consultant. After all, aren’t schools and school counselors supposed to prepare students for college themselves? The answer is yes, but no they don’t. They are overwhelmed and unprepared to give students the time and attention it requires.
Quite simply, the teachers and the counselors at school may not be enough for students. There may also be a lack of understanding of their needs and/or their strengths. Or, the school may just not be helping with a specific skill, like planning, studying, or essay writing.
In these cases, you may need to supplement with outside services. A traditional college consultant may not understand your child’s unique learning and thinking differences or, more importantly, the stress level present today. A professional like a doctor or a psychologist isn’t trained to meet academic needs and college consultants aren’t trained to meet psychological/emotional needs. A College Consultant who is also an Educational Therapist can fill the gap.
Our Educational Consultants/Therapists teach the skills and strategies that help manage stress and improve school performance. They can help make all of it easier on you by identifying your needs and working on them using a holistic approach.
The specific strategies and treatments used by our Educational Consultants/Therapists will vary, according to those needs. Here are just a few examples of what our Consultants/Therapists may do:
Help identify individual social/emotional/behavioral issues that may be caused by underlying learning and thinking differences - or may have developed due to the unprecedented circumstances presented by Covid-19 quarantine/social distancing/virtual school.
Help with social/test anxiety
Teach strategies to improve focus and work habits
Teach time management, organizational skills, and test-taking skills (ACT/SAT/AP)
Develop an educational college-ready plan by giving assessments, tracking progress and adjusting as needed
Provide a safe environment for students to talk about their school experience and learn how to self-advocate
Act as a link between home and school
An Educational Consultant/Therapist can also act as a case manager. The therapist can help coordinate with tutors, specialists, and teachers to better address your specific needs.
